Wylye Valley Writers: Sharing Stories
Based at Langford Parish Hall, Hanging Langford, near Salisbury, Wiltshire, our aims are to nurture local writers and entertain our audience by sharing stories.
We hold quarterly events where five invited writers read extracts from their recent work to a live audience, followed by a lively discussion.
The writers are local authors, published or unpublished. The readings may be from any form of writing: poetry, prose or plays, fiction or non-fiction. Genres are of all types: recent readers have read historical, women’s, comic, future, and contemporary fiction as well as memoir.
Previous Events
We’ve had a wide range of contributors at our meetings, from novelists to poets, short story writers to musicians, bringing their wonderful work to us to entertain and intrigue us.

How Wylye Valley Writers came to be
June Cluett held a book launch for Five Artist Writers which William, a neighbour, attended and hugely enjoyed. They discussed a possible local book launch for both June’s new book and William’s latest Science Fiction novel, Dark & Light. Later, June attended a meeting of the Salisbury Writing Circle where members read aloud their own short stories, bringing their magical words to life. Putting these elements together gave the structure for an entertaining evening which would help promote local writers. Immediately June and William were joined by Tracy, who writes as Maude Martin, and together they launched Wylye Valley Writers.
